DIAMOND CITY SPORT SHOOTING CLUB
Kimberley - Northern Cape
Founded in 1961 on De Beers Terrace in Kimberley, the club initially focused on .22 pistol target shooting. Over time, the range was upgraded with improved backstops and side berms, allowing for .22 rifles to be used as well. In 1971, the club embraced “Combat Shooting” with larger caliber handguns such as the .45 ACP and 9mm Parabellum.
By 1973, the Northern Cape Combat Shooting Association was established to organize and promote competitive shooting. The club played a key role in the founding of the South African Practical Shooting Association (SAPSA) in 1976, and later helped establish the Griqualand West Practical Shooting Association, which is now known as the Northern Cape Practical Shooting Association.
Due to housing developments, the club relocated near the sewage dams but was forced to move again after vandalism damaged the property. It then found its new home at the Kimberley De Beer’s Shotgun Range on Samaria Road, with the range named in honor of Oom Hugh Wilson, an honorary life member.
When IDPA (now SADPA) was introduced by Johann Immelman, the club expanded its disciplines to include both SADPA and IPSC, and it was renamed Diamond City Sport Shooting Club to reflect its broader focus. Today, the club is led by a chairman and two vice-chairmen, one overseeing IPSC (SAPSA) and the other managing SADPA.
ABOUT
Our club operates with a strong constitution and an annual vote at the AGM, ensuring smooth governance. The club is a tight-knit, social community where everyone knows each other, and issues are resolved with minimal fuss.
The club is managed by a Chairman and two Vice-Chairmen—one overseeing SADPA and the other IPSC—alongside a dedicated Training and Shoot Coordinator for each discipline. We also have a treasurer and club secretary to ensure smooth operations.
Safety is our top priority, and we are proud to have certified SAIRO Range Officers and SADPA Safety Officers on hand to ensure a secure shooting environment. We always welcome guests to come see what we do, and pending the shoot and their affiliation, they can even participate. We regularly host New Shooter Orientations (NSOs) for those interested in joining.
At Diamond City, we’re passionate about growing the sport of shooting and firmly believe in the motto: “You must enjoy your shooting!”
