Code of Conduct
The South African Defensive Pistol Association (SADPA) and all its members adhere to a Code of Conduct that outlines the minimum standards expected of every individual participating in all SADPA activities, including competitions, training, practice, spectatorship, and sanctioned events. This code is designed to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all members and is enforced by the SADPA organisation.
1. Membership of SADPA is a privilege; any breach of this Code of Conduct, or any behaviour which in the sole and unfettered opinion of the SADPA Executive Committee contravenes the spirit and ethos of SADPA or sport in general, may result in revocation of this privilege.
2. As a SADPA member, I serve as an ambassador for the sport and will conduct myself with integrity and decorum.
3. I will act in accordance with the rules and spirit of the shooting sport, upholding the highest standards of conduct.
4. I will participate for the enjoyment of all involved, promoting fairness and sportsmanship.
5. I will respect and adhere to the rules, showing deference to match officials and fellow participants.
6. I will encourage and support skill development within the sport and educate others to ensure high standards of risk management are maintained.
7. I will advocate for and support participation in all facets of the shooting sport.
8. I will treat all individuals with courtesy and respect, demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship and refraining from destructive criticism.
9. I will respect the inherent dignity and rights of every person, irrespective of age, race, gender, ability, cultural background, sexuality, or religion.
10. I will not engage in any threatening, harassing, or abusive behaviour towards others or make use of use of profane, insulting, demeaning, harassing or otherwise offensive language.
11. I will comply with and respect the decisions of match officials and safety officers.
12. I will do everything in my power to avoid or put an end to any situation that threatens the safety of persons at SADPA activities.
13. I will observe all applicable legislation, SADPA safety rules, and host range regulations, prioritizing the safety of all participants and bystanders.
14. I will adhere to the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 and all subsequent amendments.
15. I will refrain from the use of alcohol, substances, or medications that may impair my ability to participate safely before and during any match and never advocate for or condone the use of drugs or other banned performance enhancing substances.
16. I will reject corruption, drugs, racism, violence and other dangers to the sport
17. I will maintain and accept responsibility for my knowledge of the current SADPA rulebook.
18. I will respect and comply with the decisions of the SADPA Executive Committee, addressing any unresolved disputes or disagreements in writing to exco@sadpa.co.za.
19. I will act with integrity, impartiality, and accountability, accepting responsibility for my actions and decisions.
20. I will ensure that my conduct fosters a safe, friendly, and pleasant environment.
21. I will refrain from actions or communications that may bring SADPA into disrepute among members or the public or which will have (or could have) a detrimental effect on the best interests of SADPA, shooting sports, firearm conduct or sport in general.
22. I will comply with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, codes, and other governing legislation as stipulated by the organization.
