On the weekend of 11 & 12 April 2025, the Montagu Pistol Club hosted an epic SADPA League Match that delivered fast-paced shooting, tight competition, and a whole lot of gees in true Karoo style. With 57 shooters—including 10 dedicated staff—the match welcomed a diverse mix of SADPA regulars, as well as members from MPD, Natshoot, and SA Hunt, all ready to take on 8 Mexican-themed stages under the Montagu sun.
Shooters From All Corners
A total of 51 SADPA members were joined by 3 MPD shooters, 2 Natshoot members, and 1 SA Hunt shooter. Represented clubs included:
- False Bay Sport Shooting Club (24)
- Montagu Pistol Club (14)
- Hermanus Sport Shooting Club (6)
- On Target Sport Shooting Range (7)
Stages That Made You Sweat
The match featured 7 scenario stages and 1 standard stage, all designed with a deliberate approach: to challenge without overwhelming. “We wanted to keep it fun and fair—avoiding technical traps, especially with shooters from other organisations joining us,” said Match Director Danie Grabe.
Stage designs came from Danie, Morné Taute, and Jaco du Plessis, who collectively delivered a flowing, enjoyable match. Stage 5, the Standard Stage, turned out to be a humbler—even for Master Class shooters. A huge shoutout to Rachel Pienaar (16) for taking the stage win with just 2 points down!
Meet the Champs
From newcomers to veterans, performances across the divisions were top-class. A few highlights include:
- Ricardo Colsen (FBSSC) crushed it in the OL division, also winning three stages.
- Rachel Pienaar (HSSC) won Stage 5 and took Junior Female category honours.
- Grobbie Brink (MPD) came out on top in SP15 EX.
- Cobus Pienaar (HSSC) not only won OL SS Gold but was crowned Most Accurate Shooter.
Two shooters earned match promotions to Expert, and although there was one DQ involving a very junior shooter, safety overall was excellent.
